Virtual Classes

Keep up your practice

Gloucester Yoga is offering online classes to keep you engaged in community yoga and so that you can conveniently practice in your own home. These classes are offered through Zoom.

Zoom conferencing

Classes are streamed live using Zoom, which is free for you to use. You can join a class from your computer using the Zoom app or a web browser, or by using the Zoom app on your smartphone or tablet. You will need a broadband or high-speed internet connection. Participation using a video camera and microphone is optional, however most laptops, smartphones, and tablets have webcams and microphones built in.

Virtual Class Passes

Purchase your virtual memberships from our online store. You do not need to make a reservation for virtual classes. If you purchase a single virtual pass, please email the studio at least four hours prior to class so we can send you an invitation to the class.

How to use Zoom

    1. If you have not already done so, please go to our online store and purchase a virtual class pass.

    2. If you will be attending a virtual class using a smartphone or tablet, or which to use the Zoom desktop app for PC, click on the appropriate link below to download the app for your device.

    3. You will receive an invitation email the morning of the class with a link to join the class. When you click the link in the email you will be prompted to download or launch Zoom. The instructor would prefer to see you in your poses. However, you may choose to not allow Zoom access to your video camera or microphone. If you see rectangles of multiple screens instead of a solo screen of instructor, click “speaker view” in top right of screen. Speaker View should be the default.

Instructors will start the Zoom meeting 10 minutes before each class starts. Please try to join your first class early to ensure you have a good connection and can both see and hear your instructor and join following classes on time. Once class starts we cannot guarantee that the instructor will see you waiting to be admitted to the class and it is disruptive to others for the instructor to stop class to admit students.

Zoom Q&A

  1. Do I need to reserve a space through RhinoFit for virtual classes?
No. However, if you want to track your progress, you can reserve a spot and after completion of the class, your participation will be recorded as attended.

  2. May I use in-studio passes for virtual classes?
Yes, if you have a punch pass (5 or 10 class pass or new student pass) and would like to use that pass for virtual classes, please email the studio at least two hours prior to class so that you are added to the Zoom invitation.

  3. If I am late for a virtual class, will I be admitted?
Maybe. Once class starts we cannot guarantee that you will be admitted to the class. It is disruptive to others for the instructor to stop class to admit students. Instructors will start the Zoom meeting 10 - 15 minutes before class starts so you can ensure you have a good connection.

  4. Do I need to keep my video on?
No. However, the instructor would prefer to see you in your poses in order to see how you are receiving their cues so that they are able to make adjustments to the pace or provide more verbal instruction, if necessary.

  5. What is a concurrent class?
The instructor teaches virtually using Zoom and to a limited number of practitioners in the studio at the same time.

  6. Can those participating virtually see the in-studio participants?
No. Spaces are marked for mat placement and the computer strategically aligned so that this doesn’t happen.

  7. Will those participating in-studio see the virtual participants?
A large flat screen TV is mounted on the back wall. The only time someone can see the screen is if they turn around.

  8. How can I reserve a space for in-studio participation?
Reserve your space for in-studio classes through RhinoFit. Open the calendar and click on the class highlighted in purple. Remember there are limited spaces available but there is a wait list in case of cancellation. Mat space must be reserved and there are no walk-ins. For your fellow yogi’s safety, masks must be worn until you are on your mat. You will need to bring your personal mat and all props (blankets, blocks, strap). If you have additional questions, please email the studio.
