Dates: Saturdays, September 11, 18, and 25
Location: Gloucester Yoga (in-studio)
Cost: $85

Why Yoga 101?

  • Are you curious about the practice of yoga, but you’ve been apprehensive to try an all-levels class?

  • Did you practice yoga back in your college days, but have not set foot in a studio in many years?

  • Perhaps you are a superstar athlete and eager to find another outlet that compliments your current level of fitness.

  • Have you heard about all the benefits that yoga can bring to your life, and you want to check it out for yourself?

  • Are you currently practicing, but feel you might benefit from a refresher on the basics of yoga?

Whatever your reasons, this workshop may be just right for you.

Instruction will focus on basic yoga poses in a safe and respectful way. An overview of yoga philosophy and principals, breath work, stress release, and integrating yoga in your daily life will be introduced during this 3-week workshop.

The objective is for you to become comfortable in your body and in your mind as you gain confidence, strength, flexibility and perhaps a new perspective.

You will need to bring your personal yoga mat, two foam yoga blocks and a blanket. If you don’t have these items, some are available at the studio. All are welcome and encouraged to enroll. Maximum of 8 participants.

Taught by LeeAnn Rigau, RYT-200

If you have already been trained in Dr. Fishman's method and would like to continue the momentum towards reversing osteoporotic bone loss, these virtual maintenance sessions are for you. You will focus on improving alignment, depth of your poses, and hold time. These sessions support personal accountability for sustaining these poses on a daily basis. Poses from Dr. Fishman's second series of poses may be taught as well.

If you are participating in Dr. Fishman's current study, participation in these sessions meets the requirement to work with a certified teacher twice a month.

Taught by Nancy Sessoms, E-RYT 500, Certified in Dr. Fishman's Method for Osteoporosis.

Yoga for Bone Health is a targeted practice developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, M.D. designed to help maintain a healthy skeleton, strengthen posture, and improve balance. Gloucester Yoga is offering a six-week series taught via Zoom. In this series you will be guided through all three variations of eleven poses and discover which stage is safe but effective for you at this time. The twelfth pose is savasana. The poses can be adapted for all levels of physical ability. Study results show that practicing this regimen for as little as twelve minutes a day can reverse osteoporotic bone loss.
